This museum opened in 1979 when a local potter, Chez Galip, had to part with his female friend. He asked her for a souvenir in order to remember her, and she gave him a lock of her hair. He put her hair on the wall of his pottery shop. When visitors asked about it, he told them his story.

Other women were so astonished by his sadness that they began leaving locks of their hair for him as well. Then Galip decided to open the museum. Nowadays, the exhibit has over 16,000 strands of hair attached to the walls inside.

Carhenge is situated near the city of Alliance, and it represents the American version of Stonehenge. It was created with 38 vintage American cars, all of which were covered with gray paint and arranged in a circle. The architect, Jim Reinders, dedicated his construction to the June 1987 summer solstice.

Besides Carhenge itself, there are some other artworks made of old cars and painted with various colors.

The entrance sign reads “Welcome to Hell,” and you’ll really feel like the devil’s guests in this park! Here you’ll find statues of tortured souls with animal heads, and the plaques near each of them tell you which sin they committed.
